Women’s Foundation of Minnesota Awards $20,000 Safety Grant
GFWC Nevis Area Women’s Club
The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota (WFM) has awarded $20,000 to the GFWC Nevis Area Women’s Club. The WFM works with communities to end violence by strengthening systems and infrastructure and investing in organizations that serve communities of color; Indigenous, LBGTQ+, individuals with disabilities, Greater Minnesota, immigrants and refugee peoples
The GFWC Nevis Area Club Safety grant “You have the Power” aims to broaden the understanding of young women about personal safety in relationships, raise their levels of consciousness on the warning signs, and teach them to be able to develop the confidence to speak out should they find themselves in vulnerable situations with a goal of increasing the opportunity for young women to reach their full potential and live a healthy life.
The club will use the resources to deliver community awareness forums, provide 60 young women from Park Rapids, Nevis, Cass Lake and Walker schools with gender-based violence education workshops and self-defense awareness and training.
It is anticipated that our communities will have a better understanding of the scope of relationship violence and its effects on individuals and communities, with the goal that we believe and support survivors. The project is expected to launch in the summer of 2025.
